To support local students and schools, JAXPORT spearheads the following programs:
Student Mentoring Program
JAXPORT partners with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Northeast Florida and Kessler Mentoring in a program where port employees serve as mentors to students at a local middle school.
Annual Scholarship Fund
JAXPORT contributes to an annual college scholarship fund coordinated by the International Longshoremen's Association (ILA local 1408) to help send high school students to college.
Student Intern Program
JAXPORT partners with the JAX Chamber and Duval County Public Schools to provide internships at the port and other local businesses for students participating in Information Technology Career Academies at Raines and A. Philip Randolph High Schools.
Career Academies are programs in existing high schools that offer structured, personalized learning through career-related classes with a focus on technical skills for a chosen industry. The transportation-themed career academies take one of two tracks – international business and marketing, or logistics and distribution, so that graduates will enter the workforce with a range of skills for a variety of positions. JAXPORT supports international trade and business academies at several Northeast Florida high schools.
Teacher Appreciation Day
JAXPORT participates in the First Coast Manufacturer's Association (FCMA) annual Teacher Appreciation Day to say "Thank You!" to area teachers.
Free Port Tours
JAXPORT gives free guided tours of the port to students 5th grade and above (as well as to civic, social and business associations). Learn more about port tours.
Career Day Speakers
JAXPORT employees serve as career day speakers at local schools. To schedule a speaker, call JAXPORT at (904) 357-3097.
