JAXPORT employees celebrate Earth Day with North Jacksonville clean-up

Today, JAXPORT employees celebrated Earth Day by cleaning up trash along a two-mile stretch of Heckscher Drive in North Jacksonville between the JAXPORT Cruise Terminal and the port’s Blount Island Marine Terminal.

JAXPORT adopted the section of road through the Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) Adopt-A-Highway program. In total, employees picked up 860 pounds of trash, eight tires, a mattress, a barrel and a few other large pieces of debris.

As part of the program, JAXPORT employees will remove litter along the road throughout the year. Highway adoptions help ease the load of FDOT work crews enabling them to work on other road and highway projects, according to FDOT.

“Heckscher Drive is the front door to our North Jacksonville terminals,” said JAXPORT CEO Eric Green. “We are proud to do our part to help keep it clean for our neighbors and the cargo and cruise customers who travel this road each day on their way to and from our facilities.”
