- First small-scale waterside LNG facility opens in Jacksonville
Today JAXPORT celebrated the official opening of the first small-scale waterside liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility in the United States with port partners Pivotal LNG and Northstar Midstream.
The state-of-the-art facility, located within minutes of the port’s Dames Point and Blount Island Marine Terminals, produces LNG, a clean, environmentally-friendly fuel source for the maritime industry.
At a ribbon cutting ceremony, Pivotal LNG President Tim Hermann thanked JAXPORT CEO Eric Green for the port’s dedication to advancing a clean fuel for the maritime industry.
The new facility provides LNG for TOTE Maritime Puerto Rico’s two 3,100-TEU containerships that service Puerto Rico from JAXPORT’s Blount Island terminal. The Puerto Rico trade lane is now serviced through Jacksonville by some of the world’s most environmentally friendly vessels.
JAXPORT is the only East Coast port to serve vessels powered by LNG with on-dock, near-dock – and now waterside – fueling capabilities.
