- JAXPORT Chief Operating Officer earns internationally recognized industry certification
JAXPORT Chief Operating Officer Frederick Wong Jr. is one of eight graduates nationwide to earn the 2019 American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) Port Professional Manager (PPM) certification. Wong is the second JAXPORT employee in the port’s history to earn this prestigious industry certification.
PPM is an internationally recognized, four-year program designed to shape the future of port leadership by providing high-level knowledge of all facets of port operations and management. The program includes hands-on project based learning lead by thought leaders throughout the maritime industry.
“This specialty training, combined with Fred’s existing knowledge and experience, benefits our customers, stakeholders and port community,” said JAXPORT CEO Eric Green. “As the port continues to grow, we must ensure our executives have the tools and training needed to meet the demands of the future.”
Wong oversees JAXPORT’s terminal operations, public safety and engineering departments. Among the port’s major initiatives within his area of responsibility are the deepening of the Jacksonville Harbor and expansion of the port’s auto handling capacity.
JAXPORT is Florida’s largest container port by volume and the nation’s No. 2 vehicle-handling port. Dozens of ocean carriers call JAXPORT, offering shippers competitive transit times to 140 ports in more than 70 countries.
