To support local students and schools, JAXPORT spearheads the following programs:
Coastal Sciences Education
Young coastal scientists and instructors at Mayport Elementary School’s Coastal Sciences Academy learn about the St. Johns River and its wildlife in the JAXPORT-sponsored Aquaculture ‘Labitat’. Fifth grade students spend the school year understanding the environmental and economic impacts of the river, including a tour of the port.
Annual Scholarship Fund
JAXPORT contributes to an annual college scholarship fund coordinated by the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) Local 1408 to help area high school seniors and college students pursue higher education.
In partnership with the University of North Florida’s Coggin College of Business, JAXPORT funds a $2,500 annual scholarship to a full-time junior or senior studying transportation and logistics.
Student Intern Program
JAXPORT offers a summer internship program for college students interested in the transportation and logistics industry with positions available in the areas of Sales and Marketing, Communications, Public Safety and more. Students must be attending junior, senior or graduate level classes and maintain a 2.5 GPA or better.
