Leaders from JAXPORT, Jacksonville-based ocean carriers, and the Puerto Rico Ports Authority joined lawmakers in Washington D.C. to discuss the continued growth of the Puerto Rico trade lane.
Jacksonville is the number one U.S. port for trade with Puerto Rico, handling nearly 90 percent of all sea trade between the island and the U.S. mainland.
Additional discussion areas on Capitol Hill included restoring pharmaceutical and medical manufacturing on the island and continued investment in Puerto Rico’s infrastructure.
Domestic maritime trade, including the Puerto Rico trade lane, supports more than 65,000 jobs and $14.6 billion in annual economic impact for Florida businesses and residents.
