In February 2025, JAXPORT will welcome the Gemini Cooperation’s North America Shuttle service, connecting Jacksonville, Florida with Cartagena, Colombia and the Gemini global network. The Gemini Cooperation is a partnership between Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk.

The new service offers several benefits to our port customers and the broader supply chain community.

Enhanced Global Connectivity

Gemini’s North America Shuttle service will directly connect Jacksonville to Cartagena, Colombia, a major transshipment hub.

With 290 vessels and a combined capacity of 3.4 million TEUs, the Gemini network offers significant reach and flexibility for shippers with its 26 mainline ocean services and 32 dedicated shuttle services.

Gemini’s North America Shuttle service directly links Jacksonville with Cartagena, and provides shippers access to an extensive global network that includes:

Reliability as a Standard

In today’s networked economy, schedule reliability is more critical than ever. Gemini proposes to set an industry benchmark with a target of over 90 percent schedule reliability. This commitment to punctuality will bring numerous benefits to JAXPORT customers:

  • Improved inventory management: Predictable arrival times allow for more efficient stock planning.
  • Reduced supply chain disruptions: Consistent schedules minimize the ripple effects of delays.
  • Enhanced customer satisfaction: On-time deliveries lead to more satisfied customers.

Sustainability at the Forefront

Many shippers have goals to reduce carbon emissions, and the maritime industry can help. Gemini’s focus on decarbonizing aligns with JAXPORT’s commitment to resiliency and environmental stewardship:

  • Ambitious goals: Maersk aims for net-zero emissions by 2040, while Hapag-Lloyd targets 2045.
  • Efficient vessel utilization: The cooperation’s hub-and-spoke model optimizes cargo loads, reducing emissions per container moved.
  • Investment in green technologies: Both partners are at the forefront of developing and implementing eco-friendly shipping solutions.
