JAXPORT’s Caribbean connections and worldwide cargo services continue to provide an advantage for shippers transporting medical supplies.

In 2019, JAXPORT moved nearly $4 billion in medical freight, including items like medical devices and equipment, hospital and pharmaceutical supplies, nutritional products, intravenous solutions and insulin, and disposable products. Last year’s medical commodity shipments through JAXPORT represented more than twice the freight by value over the amount recorded five years ago.

More than 80 percent of JAXPORT’s trade in medical freight is with the island of Puerto Rico, which shares a longstanding trade connection with Jacksonville, Fla. JAXPORT tenants Crowley, TOTE Maritime Puerto Rico and Trailer Bridge provide multiple weekly ocean freight services between Jacksonville and Puerto Rico.

In addition to island services, JAXPORT’s direct container connections with South America, Central America and Asia complement medical commodity flows to the Southeastern U.S.
